You must have purchased a ticket to attend this session. Remarkable things can happen when empathy for others plays a key role in problem-solving. In today’s global marketplace employees are being asked to navigate an increasingly diverse peer group, culture and environment. These challenges can be so systemic and wickedly complex, the task of aligning all parties involved can seem impossible. But it doesn’t have to be this way for you or your students. Practicing empathy through a protocol called design thinking helps people call upon real-world experiences to address modern challenges; meanwhile allowing for the educator to create teachable moments and unlock the creative capacity of all learners where he/she can teach the soft (five C’s) or hard skills (test subjects) needed to meet the standards of today’s workplace and classroom. In this session, we’ll explore how human centered design works and it’s value to you as an educator. Then we will dive into an active learning experience so you can feel the sense of empowerment this protocol ignites in those that are cognizant of the process. Finally, we will unpack some ways in which this approach can be used by you no matter your grade level to grow grit, empathy, creativity and innovation in your learners.
